Jody Ess is an off-the-wall artist based in Fremantle / Walyalup WA.
She operates from her locally based premises, the Jody Ess Art Studio.

Jody’s signature painting style captures elements of crude portraiture, surrealism, dark art and counterculture – however she is also well versed with mainstream styles in adaptable applications to commissioned work. In Jody’s paintings you will find substantial use of heavy acrylics, thick textured mediums, aerosol paints and pastels.

The subject matters of Jody’s works feature visuals of unconventional beauty and humanistic realities; figures that emanate a somewhat unsettling but magnetic energy. They are statements of outspoken and honest qualities, and larger-than-life personalities. They each hold a message – sometimes provocative, sometimes whimsical, sometimes dark – but always captivating. 

Each piece invites you in to celebrate appeal in the unusual, the unexpected, the damaged, and the different.

Jody has been operating as a full-time artist and designer for the last three years. Previous to this she created her art alongside career paths in the brewing & beer industries, event operations & logistics, hospitality, and graphic design. Her creative roots go back to her childhood days, and were highlighted with her studies at Curtin VTEC in Graphic Design and Arts as a teenager.
